Tonight we had dinner at an interesting restaurant, whose name I can't possibly pronounce:
From Maui |
And it was really a nice place. It's at the Grand Wailea hotel, just 5 minutes down the coast from us. It's an outdoor restaurant with docks floating on top of koi ponds, with waterfalls, bentwood railings, thatched roofs, and a Polynesian ambience. The food is pricey, but beautifully presented and very tasty.
So here it it is. I started with a macademia nut california roll, with crab salad where we usually get crab stick or sea legs around here. The mac nuts added a richness and slight chewiness to the dish.

He had and incredible salad of melon and goat cheese, dressed with mint and a touch of raspberry vinegar. It was very light and refreshing, and incredibly tasty:

Then I had mac nut crusted mahi-mahi with citrus beurre blanc:

And he had an incredible grilled whole snapper with thai chili sauce, served over vanilla glazed baby bok choy:

We matched the fish with a Cakebread Cellars Sauvignon blanc that was perfect with it.
That would be who moo who moo new coo new coo ah poo ah ah. It's the state fish of Hawaii (hah why ee). Toni (toe knee) and I ate there when we were on Maui (Mao ee) a few years back. I didn't take any pictures of the food. There was a strolling duo consisting of a ukelele player and a singer. We asked them to do Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's version of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World". They didn't know it. We were surprised.
ReplyDeleteI admit, I was struck by the difference in names of our first 2 restaurants. It did make me wonder if Humuhumunukuapua was actually just Hawaiian for 'Joe'.
