Continuing on the Road to Hana

We paused occasionally at scenic overlooks, but there aren't too many photos at this point, because it was raining hard. And I was really bumming because we couldn't put the top down on our convertible. (I don't think I mentioned...in Maui we rented a mustang convertible. It's a lot of fun to drive. I'm really glad I cut my hair before we left, because it's pretty wild as is, but at least its easier to comb out].

Anyways, we got past the construction zone by 11AM, and decided to stop for lunch at Wai'anapanapa state park. I think this was my favorite stop on the whole road. It's a beautiful black sand beach, with surf pounding on the lava.

We drove through the town of Hana and didn't actually stop. There really is no "there" there. We did drive down to Hana Bay Beach Park, and thought that look like a really nice place for a swim...if it weren't raining!

Next stop, Koki beach, just outside of Hana. For the first time, we didn't see hoards of other tourists in the parking lot. And this is a gorgeous, if rough beach.
